First Communion

Several of our second graders will be receiving the Sacrament of First Holy Communion this Sunday, May 4, 2014, at the 10:30 A.M. mass.  Everyone is invited to attend.  May God bless them and watch over them as they receive this most precious Sacrament.

 (Silent Auction) 2014

DESTINATION:  HEAVEN

Thank you to everyone who helped with, donated to, attended and supported our 29th annual auction/dinner.  It was a wonderful time, many new friendships were formed, the support for the school was overwhelming, the spirit of love was evident, and to make it all better, we made over $23,000.00 for our school!  Until all of the bills are submitted, we cannot give you a final profit, but I am very comfortable letting you know that it will be at least $23,000.00.  Thank you!!

Holy Hour Opening

The chapel has a holy hour open on Tuesdays from 3:00 P.M. –  4:00 P.M.  This is a perfect time for parents who would like to spend time in prayer with their children.  If you cannot do every Tuesday, perhaps you could share with another family or a group of families.  If you are interested, please contact the school.

ST. MARY OF MT. CARMEL CATHOLIC SCHOOL MISSION STATEMENT

St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic School is a family oriented environment that provides a Christ centered education to students in PreK-6.  Together as a staff, parents, parish, and community, we strive to prepare students morally, spiritually, intellectually and socially to meet the challenges of the future as disciples of Jesus, spreading the word of God and ultimately entering the kingdom of heaven.

May Devotions to the Blessed Virgin Mary refers to special Marian devotions held in the Catholic Church during the month of May honoring the Virgin Mary as “the Queen of May”. These services may take place inside or outside. A “May Crowning” is a traditional Roman Catholic ritual that occurs in the month of May.

Grade 1

April showers bring May flowers! We have to look on the bright side! This week we are learning about celebrating the Eucharist, the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are already getting excited about this most Holy Sacrament, coming up next year. Reading: long a words with vcv, ai and ay combinations, topic sentences, sequencing, abc order and proper nouns. Math: comparing models of 10, place value to hundreds using Base Ten Blocks and Tens Frames. Social/Science: Earth Day activities (recycle, reduce, reuse), letters to Mother Earth and continents, oceans, equator, endangered animals by creating a 3D model of the Earth using recycled materials. Please help your children study the names of the seven continents and four oceans with their incredible creations. A special thanks, for all your support for our school, at the Auction. Jesus’ Peace!

Grade 2

We’ve almost made it! Please keep the second graders in your prayers as eight students will be receiving their First Communion this Sunday! They have been working very hard and will be ready for their special day. In reading, the students are reviewing the skills learned in the family unit. I’m hoping their Lucky Charm stories will finally be finished. Math skills this week are finding patterns in doubles and halves, measuring arm spans and long jumps, finding the middle value and frequency distributions. In science, first and second graders read about Tree-mendous Trees.  Have a wonderful week!

Grade 3

We continue to ‘see’ all the different places that Jesus appeared to his followers after his resurrection and how exciting that must have been to experience that.  We are trying to be Easter people to those around us and being a light for others.  We are exploring weight and volume during math.  We are taking our MN state tests in reading.

Grade 4

The tomato and pepper plants are growing!  A little warmth & sunshine would be nice.  We will let you know when the plant sale will be.  We do have a spelling list, work pages and a spelling test this week.  The students are also working on a handwriting lesson. We will complete the MCA Reading Test on Thursday. We completed the sea paintings-they are beautiful! They are hanging outside our room, if you want to take a peek.  It was wonderful to see so many of you at the dinner /auction.

Grade 5

Rain, rain go away! This week in fifth grade, we are continuing to MCA test. We have the reading test this week. So far, I have seen really hard work and effort going into the test. Keep it up! I am so proud of them. In music, all grades are working on the spring program and getting our songs and other portions ready for the big day.

Grade 6

This week in the sixth grade room, we are finishing up on our MCA test. Thank you for getting your child to bed early and fixing a healthy breakfast. I’m sure they are doing their very best.  We had a wonderful luncheon with the American Legion yesterday. What a great group of well-behaved students! Next Friday is our field trip. We are learning so much about Fort Snelling and the Underwater World. They are very fun topics to study.  Have your child here at school at 6:30 A.M. as the bus will leave at 6:45 A.M. Please pack a good snack and lunch because it is going to be a long day.  If you want to send extra money for the gift shops, it is up to you. We will also be stopping for supper close to St. Cloud. Please pray an extra prayer for nice weather. Thank you!
