“Every student can learn, just not on the same day, or in the same way.”
I have been teaching at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel School since 1994. I taught sixth grade for 11 years. I am currently teaching Kindergarten. Being a kindergarten teacher is so rewarding! I feel like I have a front row seat to watch a flower bloom!
Each day is different and I think that is what keeps my life exciting and my teaching fresh.
I am married and have two children. In my spare time I enjoy playing my flute with the Long Prairie Chamber Orchesta. I also find time to read, craft, and spend time with my family.
Hi! I’m Sandy Johnson, and I love teaching in this awesome school of St. Mary of Mount Carmel. Not because it’s my hometown, but I love JESUS and KIDS! I started this teaching journey graduating from Long Prairie High School, then on to Brainerd Community College in the Early Childhood Program, and finished at St. Cloud State University with a BS degree in education. I have been teaching since 1983. I have been with St. Mary School since 1985 and have had the opportunity to enjoy working with many amazing people. I have worked with some of the most professional and caring co-workers in the world, many who have helped me become the teacher that I am today. I have been teaching First Graders at St. Mary School since 1996. Prior to then, my years of teaching included 1st and 2nd grade combination, 5th grade, and Kindergarten. ALL of these kids, parents, and educators have shared and taught me many important lessons and really make me smile. I love and thank each one of them!
In the time that I don’t spend at school, my life is filled with two wonderful guys, my husband Mark and son Chance. We live in Clarissa with our black lab, and she keeps us very active with walks, retrieving her ball, swimming, relaxing, and especially hunting. As a family, we like to be with friends, go to movies, read, fish, and just spend time together.
I have truly been blessed by God!

I absolutely love teaching and cannot imagine my days any other way. I love helping children learn all about the world around them through new and adventurous ways. Their little minds just amaze me! Getting to know all the amazing families right as they enter our school is another great aspect of my job! We truly have such great families in our school and I am blessed to know each of them!
When I am not at school, I love spending time with my family. I have an amazing husband, Jonathan, twin daughters, Ellianna and Addison, and an adorable son, William. We love to go on walks, bike rides, play at the parks and visit lots of new places. I love to spend time fishing, hunting and just enjoying the animals of the outdoors. I have taken up a new hobby, sewing, the last few months, and look forward to trying some new tricks as I continue to learn the craft.
I am excited to be teaching in my hometown and I love that my own children are able to attend St. Mary School.
