ST. MARY OF MT. CARMEL CATHOLIC SCHOOL MISSION STATEMENT St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic School is a family oriented environment that provides a Christ centered education to students in PreK-6. Together as a staff, parents, parish, and community, we strive to prepare students morally, spiritually, intellectually and socially to meet the challenges of the future as disciples of Jesus, spreading the word of God and ultimately entering the kingdom of heaven.

Hail Holy Queen

Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy,
our life, our sweetness and our hope!
To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve;
to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.  Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us,
and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary! Amen

Grade 1I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. John 14:6. This Scripture Verse has been our focal point for our theme”Destination Heaven” all year. We have sung a song to this verse everyday and would like to share it with you next week for the K-2nd grade mass at 10:30 A.M. Can you believe this is our last mass together as 1st graders?! This year has soared past, but in an extra-ordinary way. This bunch is amazingly energetic in an awesome engaging light. They keep me going and on my toes. I love it!! This week is “Children’s Book Week.” This week in our classroom, I am so honored to have a former St. Mary’s 1st grade student of mine as the author of Children’s Book Week. Christopher Jon/Zenner has written and illustrated five children’s books. He was so kind as to send us a copy of each for our library. Go to www.christopherjonzenner.com to learn more about him. Our Book Character Parade is coming up soon (more information to come). The kids are so excited! The kids were rockin’ on down the Highway to Heaven today! They really are Indescribable Angels!! Heavenly Travels! Grade 2When we weren’t busy singing and practicing for the spring concert, we did some math review on adding and subtracting ones and tens to numbers.  We also practiced 2-digit addition, doubling and cutting numbers in half.  In reading, we are writing a paragraph about what we learned on our field trip to Lake Carlos last Friday. In science, the first and second graders are experimenting with what happens to gummy bears when they soak in different liquids. Please join us next Wednesday for the last second grade mass. We will be preparing it with the kindergarten and first graders.  The students will also be signing “Hail Mary, Gentle Woman” during the mass.  Have a wonderful week!
Grade 3“I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life”- this is the theme for this week’s mass. We have enjoyed performing the songs for our program, “Highway to Heaven.” We hope you have enjoyed it, too! During math, we are working on calculator riddles, and we are also learning more about coordinate grids.  We are studying fairy tales during reading and will be presenting a tale on that last week of school.  We will keep you posted! Grade 4The students learned many animal facts at the Sea Life Aquarium and enjoyed stepping back into history at Fort Snelling.  This Thursday, we will take a tour of the Todd County Museum and learn the history of our own area.   Several students still need to memorize and recite the Act of Faith prayer.The students have done an excellent job of growing the plants again this year.  You may purchase tomato and pepper plants Wednesday, Thursday and Friday after school.  Any remaining plants will be sold after the Saturday and Sunday masses.
Grade 5Less than two weeks left of school! Can you believe it? This week is spring program week. We practiced, practiced and practiced some more. We hope you were able to make it and enjoyed it. Thanks for any extra help you did at home with your children. For fifth and sixth grade language arts, we are finishing up some of our writing projects and our novel unit books as the school year will be over before we know it. Grade 6What a wonderful job the sixth graders did at the spring program! Thank you for all the hard work. Next week we will be having our final test in religion and math. Our AR goal is due on the 27! Remember that graduation mass is on May 28 at 8:30 A.M. We hope you can all attend. It is going to be extra tough saying good bye to this group of students. Having them two years in a row has been a special blessing for me. We hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day.
