WORKATHON AND PRAYER-A-THON

On Monday, we kicked off our annual workathon – and this year added a prayer-a-thon!! Please see the white folder that went home with all students in grades kindergarten through grade six. If we make our goal of $8,000.00, we will be taking all of the participating students to the Sauk Centre Theatre for a movie day – complete with treats! We have 97 kindergarten through sixth grade students, so if each student brings in $100.00, we could smash our goal! I realize if you have three or four children at St. Mary’s, it may be difficult to have each of the children raise $100.00. We just ask each family to help us out. Thank you to the students who have the opportunity to bring in more than $100.00. This year, the student who brings in the most money will receive a crisp $100.00 bill!!

FUNDRAISING MEETING

Wednesday, September 24, 2014, at 6:30 P.M.

* We currently have the following fundraisers on our schedule:

WORKATHON/PRAYER-A-THON

HOLES TO HEAVEN ICE FISHING CONTEST

SILENT AUCTION

* We need to decide if we will have the Christmas Cookie Sale and/or the Wine and Cheese Tasting.

* Other new ideas include a Trap Shooting Scramble, a Golf Scramble and a Talent Show.

* We need to add one or two fundraisers to our set schedule to keep the cost of tuition affordable for our families. We hope to have fundraisers that DO NOT include having our children go out and sell items. We want to build community and include more participants than just our school and parish.

* Here is your chance to give us your opinion!

* We invite ALL PARENTS to attend this meeting and help us get started on a fun year of activities!!

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO JOINED US FOR GRANDPARENTS’ DAY! WHAT AN INCREDIBLE CROWD!!

I have just learned how to add items to our webpage. Please be patient with me as I try to upload the newsletters, calendars and etc. THANK YOU!!

Wisdom is our scripture word of the week. We are really becoming wiser in all areas of our first grade adventure. I am so proud of them! Lessons of the week: Reading – letter review and comprehension strategies. Math – Shape creations, number recognition and number lines. Social Studies – Bus Safety and Constitution of the USA/St. Mary’s. Art – Watercolor creations. Happy Last Week of Summer!

Grade 2

This week in grade two, we are continuing to learn school routines. In religion we are learning about Baptism. In math we are reviewing time, addition and subtraction. In reading we are focusing on short e, o, and u words. Ask your child about Julius the pig. The students are writing about their morning routines. It should be coming home this week. Look for your parent codes to get into ClassDojo. This is completely optional, but if you would like to peek in on your child’s day, check it out. I just found out that I can share messages and pictures through that program, also. Have a great week!!!

Grade 3

Congratulations to Tony and Mary Vetter on the birth of their grandson Tristen Theodore. Tristen was born on September 9. He weighed 8 lbs., 6 oz. and was 21 inches. Tristen was welcomed home by his big brother.

Grade 4

The class did a great job of leading us in prayer and song at mass today. They are very excited to learn how to locate different books and verses in their Bible. We are learning about organisms in science. We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of living crayfish! We will compare the crayfish behavior and body parts with other organisms. Students are focused on their AR goal for September. They have just a little more than a week to make their goal!

Grade 5

Congratulations to Tyler and Megan Dreher on the birth of their daughter Raegan Rose. Raegan was born on September 16. She weighed 7 lbs., 11 oz. She is welcomed home by her big brother, Oakley.

Grade 6

Just a reminder that the Enviro Fest is tomorrow. Please dress weather appropriate and bring a bag lunch. The sixth graders are working very hard in math, reviewing many of the concepts from fifth grade mathematics. In social, we are learning all about our beautiful country, the USA. In religion, our focus is on God, tevelation, and faith. Thank you for your wonderful job of checking assignment books and performance reports. Good luck with the work-a-thon and prayer-a-thon pledges.
